Lake Cachuma Fishing Guide Report March 07, 2026

Very steady bass fishing at Cachuma most of the fish are in that 15 to 25 foot range on a plastic worm. Lake remains at 100% of capacity and we have a very large trout fishing tournament this weekend it’s actually all species but lake has lots of anglers checking in and we expect to have some great results once we get through the weekend www.richtauberfishing.com

We just wrapped up our day today and big changes as large volumes are a fish are breaking in open water we caught over 30 fish today with just two clients fishing for four hours. All these fish were caught on surface boils Basstrix swimbait was the weapon just magnificent fishing. www.richtauberfishing.com

Lake Casitas Fishing Guide Report March 07, 2026

Some absolutely beautiful weather and a bit of a transition we’re starting to see shad in shallow water typical of early season it shows up one day and goes off into deeper water the next day we saw a big group of it all along the northern shoreline of Lake Casitas for a few days we netted it and also fished Basstrix swimbaits through it with excellent results. The fish are definitely transitioning from the spawn into a postpone pattern so we are going to have some good topwater fishing real quick and also lots of good swim bait fishing our favorite is a Basstrix swimbait on a spinning rod with 8 pound test line. Have not caught any bluegill or redear to speak of and trout fishing is very slow. www.richtauberfishing.com

Lake Cachuma Fishing Guide Report March 07, 2026

Pretty much the same story here at Lake Cachuma the fishing is very very steady of course the lake is at 100% a capacity and all of our focus has been on bass fishing we have had a couple of days where we’ve caught good numbers of smallmouth bass but for the most part it’s largemouth basic plastic worm fishing has been best we have caught a lot of fish on a chartreuse/white spinner bait so I would keep one of those on board. We haven’t had any reliable bluegill fishing to speak of and no Crappie fishing to speak up but we have our eyes on it. www.richtauberfishing.com

Lake Cachuma Fishing Guide Report March 07, 2026

Our superstar guide Steve Morris has been utilizing a spinner bait and plastic worm for the most part. Weather is beautiful fishing is very good lots of fish and shallow water concentrating most of our efforts in that 10 to 20 foot area with some fish actually up in shallow water and in spawning position. We actually have a couple of trout fishing trips in the next couple of days but most of our trips have been based on bass fishing, water level is at 101% of capacity and we are open seven days a week www.richtauberfishing.com

Lake Casitas Fishing Guide Report March 07, 2026

The fishing remains excellent at Lake Casitas with lots and lots of fish in shallow water probably the most alarming thing has been the last 2 to 3 days we’ve seen lots of bass fry in the water so very encouraging to have that large of a spawn that happened during this heat wave that’s pretty early in the year for us but a great sign and I mean I’ve seen lots and lots of balls of fry in the water which is great. We’ve been concentrating our efforts in less than 15 feet of water doing a little bit of sight fishing of course all catch and release and relying on a variety of plastic worms mostly a TRD in the brown and purple colors the water got a small allergy bloom in the last two days it’s still clear but it’s not crystal clear like it was last week www.richtauberfishing.com

Lake Cachuma Fishing Guide Report March 07, 2026

Our guide Steve Morris has seen very steady fishing and most importantly we’re now finally starting to catch some trout on a consistent basis. Some of these trout have been up to 6 pounds. The cold weather definitely helped the trout fishing . Of course Cachuma is absolutely full of water and they’re doing their best to manage it by letting out some of the water for all the water that is still coming in through all of the creeks. Bass fishing is primarily a deeper event at Cachuma mostly in that 25 to 35 foot range with a plastic worm. All of our trout fishing has been at the dam and also over at Bobcat Canyon we have been focusing on that 2 to 15 foot range with a variety of nightcrawler flicker shad and other trout baits. www.richtauberfishing.com

Lake Casitas Fishing Guide Report March 07, 2026
Not a lot to report other than basically everyone here is getting ready for the spring fishing to explode. Water temperatures are really good 64–66°. We had a full moon a few days ago but the fish haven’t really jumped up on the shoreline like we know they will. It’s steady fishing but all of us at Lake Casitas know that the real explosion of fish moving to shallow water is probably coming in the next week or so. Lake level remains at 100% of capacity and as we talked about has been going over the spillway for a few weeks now. Water clarity was close to 20–22 feet today incredibly clear not a lot of boat traffic as I think everyone’s getting ready for the fish to jump up on the shore really quick with this beautiful band of weather in front of us. www.richtauberfishing.com

Well yesterday we got out first thing in the morning and there was snow on the mountains and water temperature was 58° there was no one on the lake very very cold in the morning but by about 10 AM it was beautiful we’re still catching decent numbers of fish we actually saw a couple of packs of bass chasing balls of shad on topwater which is incredible for this time of year. We focused most of our efforts in that 15 to 25 foot range with a plastic worm as everyone is aware of the lake is now completely full and going over the spillway it’s continuing to go over the spillway at a pretty good rate even this morning. This is only the second time that Lake Casitas has gone over the spillway since 1998 which is pretty impressive and a great sign for our future fishing www.richtauberfishing.com.

Lake Casitas report today well I just got off the water and it’s absolutely gorgeous great weather no wind really warm and the bass fishing is some of the best that I’ve ever seen in February. Normally February is very difficult but there are lots of fish in that 15 to 25 foot range plastic worm is best you have to find a good spot… we have like three different places that we are concentrating on and we’re sitting down in those areas and catching good numbers of fish actually it’s the best February I’ve seen at Casitas in many many years maybe 20 or 30 years. Of course March will be a lot better but definitely pretty shocking how good the fishing has been most of it’s been in that 1 to 2 1/2 pound range fish with confidence any type of brown or purple plastic worm has been best www.richtauberfishing.com

Lake Cahuma Fishing Guide Report Daily

Lake Cachuma Fishing Guide we had an absolutely crazy week we actually worked every single day Monday through today from sun up till sundown Steve Morris ar the helm as we grind through it. Even though we had a 5,000 pound trout plant the fishing has been difficult which is kind of mind-boggling everyone’s having trouble catching these trout the best pattern that we found is slow trolling flicker shads by the dam. Bass fishing has been an average. It was close to 80° every day with absolutely no wind. Yesterday Thursday we did catch quite a few fish and then today it was back to grinding away at it we’re catching fish every day for this lake in February that’s a little bit off so we’re hoping for a better week next week. Lake Cahuma Fishing Guide Report Daily

Lake Cachuma report as of this morning. Basically Lake Cachuma went over the spillway on Christmas night, we were actually there with clients the day after Christmas and were told that we could not launch the lake was closed so it stayed closed for about six days and then it got opened up here and there on some of the days between the rain where they let people go out fishing the lake is getting so water they’re basically dumping it as much as possible to keep it from getting up into those higher areas. We did catch quite a few fish on our trips surprisingly the lake is super super muddy as expected we caught a few trout we caught fair numbers of bass and that was the extent of our fishing but now that the sun is out the lake seems to be stabilized it should be good for visitors to go up there and fish and enjoy themselves the boat rentals were closed for a while because the dock broke loose from the mainland so customers weren’t able to walk down to get into the rental boats but everything seems to be in good order now and and the lake is absolutely full of water and beautiful www.richtauberfishing.com.

Lake Casitas as of this morning. Well Lake Casitas stayed open the entire time through all of the storms which was pretty nice for us so those that did want to go out and fish in a driving rain storms they could do so. The lake will most likely go over the spillway either later today or tomorrow morning it’s right at the edge of it within a few inches. The bass fishing surprisingly was pretty good we actually caught bass and crappie mostly in that 30 to 50 foot range on a variety of plastic worms and shad color swim baits or under spins. All of the facilities at the lake are open and as I said boat launching is great they’ve moved the docks into position so Casitas is actually in beautiful shape absolutely loaded to the top with water and should make for probably one of the bass fishing seasons maybe we’ve ever seen in the history of the lake.
