We have Live Shad!!!! Yes folks you heard it right, we are now netting live shad for bait at Lake Casitas in Southern California. As most of you know this is one of the most exciting times of the year. Every season anglers come from all over the country to take part in the incredible fishing that takes place every May and June at this world-famous fishery. Here's the story. On May 1 we began to see the shad. It was difficult to net, but we could see it, and occasionally we would make a small scoop of Shad. As of today's report the shad are thick and floating in a very large area of the lake. I have been going out every morning and netting the Shad early before my customers arrive. What's really nice is there seems to be bait throughout the day if you ever need a little extra to top off your bait tank. All of the bass are being caught on light spinning tackle with 4 pound test line and very small red hook. All of the bass are coming on the fly line shad, meaning we are using no weight. It is absolutely amazing how much fun it can be to catch these 2 to 6 pound largemouth bass on this ultralight fishing tackle. This is absolutely the most fantastic place in Southern California to bass fish in the month of May in June. Since I'm on the water every day fishing, I am one of the very first people, if not the first person to report that the shad are up and available at Lake Casitas. As most of you know my business has always been a first-come first-served operation. This is absolutely a classic time to fish with family, children, wives, and relatives. It's one of those great times where you can sit back, relax, and let the live Shad do all the work. It's something that all bass fishermen in Southern California look forward to and here it is! I am taking trips out seven days a week. I offer two types of bass fishing guide trips. One is a four hour half day fishing trip. You can bring one to three people, all your tackle is provided, and there is ice, bottled water, and packaged snacks on board all at no extra charge. My second trip is a full eight hour day guide trip. Once again all tackle is provided, and there's bottled water, ice, soda and packaged snacks on board once again for no extra charge. Both of these trips leave at 7am daily. And I also offer a half day trip that leaves the dock at 12 noon and returns at 4pm. Since this is a first-come first-served operation it is very important to contact me as soon as possible. Once the word gets out that the shad are up and available at Lake Casitas the months of May and June book very quickly. You can e-mail me at the top right hand corner of this page, at the "Contact Rich Tauber" link. You can also call me on my mobile phone at (818) 439-1154. I sure am excited about this special time of year and the tremendous bass fishing that we have right now at Southern California's Lake Casitas. I look forward to hearing from you and taking advantage of this spectacular bass fishing.
