Well here it is that special time of year every bass angler looks forward to. This is what it's all about for us who enjoy this wonderful sport. As you read this bass will be moving into shallow water all throughout the western United States and it's absolutely the best time of year for us to utilize various fishing techniques with great success. I think it's important for every bass angler to realize that this is that one time of year that if you would like to work on something to improve your game as a bass angler this is the time to do it. You're going to enjoy your greatest successes with a variety of lures and techniques at this time of year. I guess what I'm getting at is if you have any interest in improving yourself as a bass angler with any particular technique this is the time to focus on it. Four instance if you don't really get the chance to fish with a Texas rig plastic worm very often this is a great time to rig up a sliding bullet weight and a big plastic worm rigged Texas style and get to work. If you have problems fishing with a shaky head plastic worm this is a great time to pick up that Shakey head and go to work with it and enjoy some success which will improve your confidence. It's just the best time of year to use a variety of lures that you have not caught many bass on and get that confidence that you need to be successful with that technique. For instance I have a lot of my bass fishing guide clients that have told me I've never caught a bass on the spinnerbait. I think to myself wow,,,, a spinner bait is one of the greatest tools in the business and my client has never caught a bass on one. This is what I'm trying to get at is I would like you to take a few baits that you have your most trouble with and try to focus on them during this time of year. On a personal note I've always had lots of trouble fishing a jig in shallow water. I just don't use them that much. On a personal level I have been fishing a jig quite a bit at Lake Casitas in shallow water and starting to improve my confidence. With this thought in mind I would like to invite anyone that lives in the Los Angeles area that would like to come fishing with me this is a wonderful time to book a guided fishing trip. I work everyday at Lake Casitas in Ventura California and I can take you fishing on any day of the week. We can work on issues that you have trouble with and try to sharpen your game for this coming season's bass fishing. Yes this is the time of year to get out on the water on work on all of the things that have given you trouble in the past. As I told many people it's so difficult to improve your skills as a bass angler if you're trying out a new technique and you're not catching any fish with it. It's one thing to work on a technique but it's a completely different matter when you actually rig up something and try a new technique and actually catch fish on that technique. I have never been a believer that you can improve as a bass angler just casting out a lure and retrieving it through the water. You have to be able to take a technique that is new to you and be able to rig it up and fish it and catch at least one fish on it so you can gather some confidence and some of the feel for that particular technique. So get out there bass anglers and get to work on all the things that you would like to improve on for this wonderful 2014 bass fishing season. People can talk about quagga muscles, and low water levels in the western United States all they want to. We still enjoy the greatest sport ever known to man. Bass fishing is just one of those super cool things that were all so lucky to be involved with. On a personal note I would like everyone to know that I just purchased a brand-new 2014 G3 20 foot long fishing Pontoon boat. It's a great tool to use for showing lots of fishing techniques and be able to go over fishing questions, spread out a lake map on the table, look at lots of different fishing tackle. It's just a wonderful tool for teaching people about the sport of bass fishing. It's super cool with a live well and Minn Kota trolling motor and lots of space when I have clients that want to come and fish with family and friends. This will be a great addition to my fishing fleet which also includes of course a 21 foot Phoenix 721 bass boat. If any of you are ever interested in going fishing with me at Lake Casitas in Ventura California this spring please send me an email at [email protected]. Enjoy your spring fishing season and all the best as we take on this exciting time of year.
