We had some steady fishing this week at Castaic Lake and a major change in the way that we're going about getting after the striped bass. On Tuesday, February 24 we had wide-open striper fishing for two hours fan casting a big stick bait out in open water as the birds gave us a tip on where the fish were at. Just absolutely tremendous fishing as we caught 15 to 20 striped bass between 3 and 5 pounds. There was a trout plan on February 25 and that also seemed to stimulate the action a bit also. We have been locating certain areas of the lake that the fish have been breezing in and focusing on fishing a big stickbait throughout those regions until we make contact with the striped bass. We have a nice band of weather in front of us so we're looking forward to a good stretch of fishing this week. I also want anglers to know that I will be at the Long Beach Fishing tackle show for the entire week and they can stop by my booth "Rich Tauber Fishing" located in the 400 isle and talk with me personally about any questions they have about fishing Castaic Lake, Pyramid Lake or Lake Casitas. Anglers interested in booking a fishing trip can call or text me at 818-439-1154. Angers can also go to Rich Tauber Fishing.com.
Here is Steve Nelson with the typical striped bass this one taken on a big streamer fly on February 26, 2015. Any type of large shad like imitation has definitely been the hot ticket. Big streamer flies like this or a large shad colored stick bait have been the most productive this week.
