Castaic Lake Bass Fishing Report 5/20/2016 – The lake continues to rise at an accelerated rate and there is an abundance of submerged bushes and plants down to 30' These conditions have the fish scattered at all depths and have them once again backed off from spawning. There are a few "fry guarders" that are still shallow oriented, but for the most part the best fishing has come from the 10'-20' zone. Senkos in watermelon varieties and dropshot Robo Worms in Aaron's Magic, Prizm Shad and The People's Worm colors have been our go-to baits fished around secondary points and rocky outcroppings. These areas have fewer to little submerged bushes and make for good, clean presentations. The good news is the shad have made their presence felt and are showing in great numbers in the backs of some coves. Look for the fishing to explode here as soon as the water level stabilizes. This Castaic Lake is returning to its former glory and with the addition of good-sized Smallmouth Bass, will be on everyone's radar in the coming weeks and months.
