Not that the whole world knows about it, but all us fishing Castaic Lake feel mighty privileged. With ultralight clouds on the lake, the striped bass fishing remains excellent. We had a guide trip this morning (1/10/2015) with two anglers and they caught over a dozen striped bass and we were done fishing by 12 noon. We probably had 16-18 strikes and the action was nonstop. These fish are suspended in open water and we have designed an umbrella rig that's pretty special. We are showing all of our guide clients exactly how to rig this customer umbrella rig. It's taking quite a bit of work on my part but I'm super pleased with the results and the fishing has been pretty incredible for this time of year. If you have the umbrella rig set up correctly the fishing is not difficult. The fish are suspended in anywhere from 40 to 60 feet of water depending on the amount of light penetration and bird activity. On some days we've actually seen large volumes of striped bass breaking on the surface. Every day has been a bit different and Friday (1/9) we had huge schools of striped bass breaking on the surface. We're just keeping our eyes on the birds and the light conditions and making the proper decisions. We are starting our bass fishing guide trips each dayat 7:30 AM. With a band of great weather in front of us conditions remain perfect. Anglers with any questions or would like to book a fishing guide trip at Castaic Lake can call or text me 818-439-115.
