We've had some good fishing for our guide clients but it is definitely been inconsistent at Castaic Lake throughout the week. Without question our best fishing was Thursday, February 12 as large schools of stripers busted on threadfin shad for almost an hour during the midmorning hours. Without question the most consistent approach has been our custom umbrella rig trolled in 40 to 50 feet of water. Not much has changed as birds have been our biggest indicator for putting our clients on good catches. On Friday, February 13 there was to be a trout plant but the Department of Fish and wildlife elected to not plant the trout into Castaic Lake because of debris on the launch ramp. Therefore giving pyramid lake a double plant of trout. There is no question that the best striped bass fishing has been on days with some type of nasty weather. Any kind of weather or cloud cover has really helped the striper bite at both Castaic Lake and Pyramid Lake. The heavy winds we had at the beginning of the week really improved the striper fishing. By the weekend the weather just got two nice as it was absolutely beautiful and dead calm on Friday and Saturday. We are going to continue fishing stripe bass through the month of February and then switch most of our focus to Lake Casitas in Ventura California as we get ready to really get after the largemouth bass as they are moving into shallow water to spawn at Lake Casitas.
