Really steady fishing is the best way that I can explain the action at Lake Casitas this week. One of the more consistent weeks I've seen in a while. No real improvement in the fishing and no real drop off. Once again some of my guide clients have had some of the greatest days they have had in several years and others have been less fortunate. When I line the boat up in the right spot at the right time some of the catches have been fantastic. The fish are still cycling in the middle of pockets and coves gorging themselves on threadfin shad. They're all good fish. All that good 4-8 pound stuff. Anglers focusing on artificial's can catch them on a wide variety of lures but you can feel the movement toward topwater, a buzzbait, spinnerbait and any type jerkbait. The fish are definitely on the move for large threadfin shad and any of these big reaction baits could be very effective during the coming weeks.
Below:
Lake Casitas April 18, 2015 and here is a typical catch of 3 to 6 pound bass when our guide clients get set up on the right spot at the right time. All these fish were caught on live shad flylined on 6 pound Izorline Platinum. It's a waiting game as we set on the anchor waiting for these schools of large fish to move through the zone.
