After struggling with an algae bloom for the last couple of weeks the water quality has improved tremendously and the fishing is on the upswing at Lake Casitas in Ventura California. The last few days we've noticed a huge improvement in the water clarity as now we can see 3-4 feet deep in many places and grass beds are popping up all over the lake. For the most part the shad spawn is behind us now. There is still a huge volume of shad but the billowing clouds of spawning shad that we've had for months have pretty much finished their business. It was truly a mixed bag of fishing all week. Our clients caught bass, crappie and rainbow trout on almost every fishing trip this week. Live shad was still our primary technique on the flyline with 6 pound test line. It's been kind of crazy we've been catching crappie bass and trout all on live shad. The way the grass is blooming in the lake and the clarity of the water improving each and every day we can see some tremendous topwater fishing popping up in the next week or two.
