The shad are up and the bass are biting! Wow, sure is fun to catch those bass, and big stripers on topwater baits. It all started about 3 weeks ago. By the first of this month we started catching lot's of fish on a regular basis. The largemouth and striper are mixed for the the most part. What I mean is, when the fish start breaking on the surface, you make a cast with your topwater bait and catch a striper, on your next cast at a boiling fish, you just might catch a largemouth. The water tempeture is 70 degrees, and the lake level is very high, almost full. All the largemouth bass are that good soild 2-4 pound grade. The big story this fall is the average size of the striped bass, they are 4-10 pounds!! The water is getting clearer each and every day. There is little to no boat traffic which is typical of the fall season. The lake opens at 7am and closes at 6pm. I have half day (4 hour) and full day (8 hour) trips available this month. We have been making (netting) live shad to fish with each morning. The shad are really large this season which is great to fish with. The hot ticket has been flylining to live shad on 4 pound test line and a #8 baitholder hook. This is a great time to fish Lake Castic, it is one of the best bass lakes in California. The weather has been fantastic on this southern California reseviour, with morning's in the low 60's and afternoon's in the low to mid 80's. As most of you know, I do not need a deposit to schedule a fishing trip. Just give me a call on my personal cell phone at (818) 439-1154 and we can set up a date for you to go fishing.
