Fishing at Lake Casitas is fantastic! The shad at this Southern California lake have been up for almost 4 weeks now. We are making bait every morning. The water temperature is 62°. The fish are in 5-20 feet of water. Lake Casitas opens every morning at 6:30 AM. We are fishing the fly line Shad on 4 pound test line. It's the best fishing that we have had in January in almost 20 years. The boat leaves the dock each morning at 8 AM. I have a half day fishing trips that leave the dock at 8am and return at noon each day. I have a full day fishing trips, that leave each day at 8 AM and return to the dock at 3 PM. The daytime temperature has been in the high 70s each day. The morning temperatures have been in the mid-40s each day. There is little to no boat traffic on the lake. We have had catches of 6 to 30 Bass each day for almost a month now. It's some of the best fishing I have ever seen it Lake Casitas. This is a tremendous time to book a bass fishing guide trip! This is the first time the bait has floated in the month of January in over 10 years. All of the bait is good-sized shad, ranging from 2 to 4 inches in length.
