Lake Castaic is offering up some pretty phenomenal fishing at the current time. It all started about three weeks ago when a huge volume of Thredfin shad floated to the surface causing a fantastic top water bite on both the largemouth and striped bass at this Southern California fishing hotspot. What makes this especially fun is there's also a pretty good volume of live shad to scoop in the back of a few selected pockets. We use this live shad to catch the stripers and largemouth during the idle times as we wait for the fish to start boiling on the surface. The lure fishing at Lake Castaic has been 100% top water, Zara Spooks, Zip Irony's, rattle traps, and a white buzzbait have been the top choices. It's been pretty much all visual fishing as we idle into the coves and pockets waiting to see activity from birds, shad and boiling bass. There is a huge volume of shad in the lake right now, both threadfin and ghost minnows. If you would like to book a trip, this would be a super exciting time to go. I know of very few anglers who don't enjoy the sight of a bass striking a top water lure. We have half and full day trips available. As always my boat is iced down with plenty of bottled water, soda, and sport drinks. We also have all types of package snacks on board for no additional charge. As always my bass fishing guide service has all of your rods, reels, and tackle ready to go each morning. We are starting the day out at 7am. The weather has been mild at Lake Castaic, and the boat traffic has been little to none.
