Well here it is February 16, 2014 and I'm now back guiding on Lake Casitas in Ventura California. The striper fishing at Castaic has pretty much quit for the most part. It was a tremendous season a Castaic lake but now it's time to focus on the largemouth bass as they move into shallow water to spawn at Lake Casitas in Ventura California. The water clarity is very nice for this time of year and the afternoon water temperatures is approaching 60°. The bass are slowly moving into shallow water and getting ready to spawn for the spring season. Each and every day the fishing is improving as we head toward what I believe will be the real take off point and that is the full moon on the 8th day of March. I can promise anyone that's coming up to fish Lake Casitas that the entire month of March will be fantastic fishing and we will be in good shape from that point on. We are approaching this with two or three basic lures. Without question the drop shot plastic worm is still one of the most efficient weapons on the lake. We are all also utilizing a Senko fished weightless and we are also using a brown jig with a plastic trailer and focusing on fishing 2 to 15 feet of water. I have half-day fishing trips that begin at 8 AM each morning. We meet inside the Marina Café and have a bite to eat and go over the details of our fishing day prior to taking off. Half-day fishing trips are four hours and we return to the dock at 12 noon. I also have full day fishing trips which began at 8 AM and we return to the dock at 4 PM. We can comfortably take one to two people fishing and in extreme situations we can also take a third person if you like. As always I supply all the rods, reels, lures and tackle that you will need for the day. There is always bottled water, ice and packaged snacks on board each and every fishing trip. As most of you know what makes my guide service so popular is that you do all the fishing as I am there to help tutor and teach during the day. No deposit is needed on any of these fishing trips. You can call or text me at 818-439-1154 and make arrangements for your fishing trip. Fishing trips start at $225 per day. And our most expensive fishing trip is $400 and that's for a full day of fishing for two or 3 people. Like I said this is the beginning of the bass season and if you're interested in booking a fishing trip this is a great time to go. We have some fantastic weather and obviously based on the weather patterns it looks like spring is in full swing. I look forward to hearing from you and getting a chance to spend some time with you fishing Lake Casitas.
