Well all good things must come to an end. And that seems to be the case for the striped bass fishing at Castaic Lake. The fish are still there but this week we had a very difficult time catching them. Our clients received lots of strikes with very few hook ups so we switched our guide fishing services to Pyramid Lake and guess what happened, the striper fishing went solid and we're back in business. We had some limited trips to Pyramid Lake a week ago and found the fish to be extremely deep. Most of our meter marks were in 100-120 feet of water. This is just too deep for us to access with any consistency. This week everything changed. We sent the troops up to Pyramid Lake and enjoy very consistent success trolling our custom umbrella rigs in that 40 to 50 foot zone and all of these fish are a better grade. Lots of stuff in the 2 to 6 pound range. Once again working birds and meter marks for the most part. With striped bass fishing you're never really sure exactly what the future will hold but we feel very confident that we're going to get 20-30 days of good fishing out of this situation. Here's a great picture taken by my clients of a group of 13 fish caught by noon on January 30, 2015 from Pyramid Lake.
